Week 1 Post 2

Coming off of the previous post regarding the Digital Dark Ages, the topic of social media toxicity came up, which personally brought back to mind a very strong opinion that is worth sharing with others, especially since many think that the subject falls under the umbrella of toxicity, but this cannot be further from the truth. Today, more and more social media platforms are getting rid of dislikes/dislike buttons, either like how dislike numbers are no longer visible like on YouTube, or dislikes aren't even an option, such as on Instagram.

This is a problem. People should have the freedom to voice their opinions, the good, the bad, and the ugly. It allows companies, especially smaller ones, to figure out what works and what doesn't much easier, and helps fellow social media users tell whether or not a post, or picture, or video is worth their time. Obviously, for some, seeing dislike numbers can be detrimental to their mental health, which is understandable. This is why the ultimate solution is for social media platforms to allow the option to display dislikes or not, so that every use has a more personalized experience, that way those who would like to see dislikes or just don't care can see them, while those who probably shouldn't see them can remain none the wiser. Everybody wins!
